OK, this may be silly but,

I've been looking for a cupholder solution for my 530 which has none. I've seen three different types (two that are a press-fit into the center console), one that is a wire-type that attaches to the right of the console by the ashtray, and the flat flip-open types.

Does anyone have any pics/opinions of what you have actually used? I'm interested in solutions.

Thanks,
uberhahn

cupholders (http://www.cup-holders.com/)

drinkholders (http://www.drinkholders.com/)

ultimate cupholders (http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/)

I personally do not have cup holders. Need my hands to enjoy the drive ;)

I went to Murrays and got one of the el-cheapo cup holders that you normally slide into the window channel. It sits on the floor and the flap that normally tucks into the channel is tucked into the center console. Basically its a version of this guys idea:

I am using Mike's Ultimate Cupholder and it works great. Its the best implementation. I went throught the flat fold out job. Looked at the Wire Job; and Had the Plastic Foam injected dealie that fits in the center console. The Ultimate is the best I think. - JT

I use the cupholder that slides onto the edge of the center console. The plastic one that you can get at the dealership. I had problems with the thing tipping over with a drink in it if I went through a corner too fast. I used some black electrical tape on the inside of the groove of the cupholder to make it fit tighter on the center console and no more tipping over and you can't see the electrical tape. Only downside to this cupholder is that you can not fit a 20 oz bottle in it.

I occasionally use one of the holders to hold my cell phone. I use the cup holder in conunction with a dealer purchased tray which fits on the front of the console which also works with cars with ASC. It holds my garage door opener etc. Together, I have fairly flexible space without stuff sliding around.

I had the same problem with that cupholded, after removing it to find an answer I noticed there were wear marks on the center console wood where it used to be on my 540i. It has since been removed.

I currently just wedge my coffee cups in the holding area right next to the hand brake. Almost every coffee thermos style cup I've ever seen, fits there pretty good. The sides flex about a 1/2 inch and really keep the cup from moving. It's also a good size for a soda can. The down side is, it's not that easy to remove or put in. But I only drink at stoplights anyway.

I bought one of these for my E34 and it was a perfect fit. When I sold the car, I mistakenly left it in the car for the new owner, but I bet they are happy I did. It removes quite easily, and in the photos from the guy's E-Bay ad....he even has it holding a Tom Horton's coffee cup!!!! What more could you ask for??

I have no stake in this guy's product....it just worked great for me!

Hasn't anyone ever told you not to drink and drive? I wont take anything in my car that dont have a screw top to make sure it dont spill.

It works OK. I was worried it would permanently deform the underlying "foam," but it has not done so on my car. I use it mainly to hold coke cans.
Not elegant or pretty, but it works. I have it on the passenger side. I don't think it is practical on the driver 's side because of leg interference.
Downside is you cannot have the passenger side seat in a combined high up and forward position or it pops off the holder.

the best one. I got one for each of my e34's, and they are great.
