according to Pat P who has a m30 bi turbo from alpina
only about 325hp

Year / Model 1992 Alpina B10 Biturbo #384 of 507

360 bhp @ 6000 rpm and 384 lbs. ft @ 4000 rpm if it is the Bi-Turbo motor. And to think these guys started out making typewriters. Great picture.

Pat must have lost some horsepower when It was crossing the water. If his are Dyno figures,the torque rating is a little iffy. Maybe I'm wrong but from all the publications I've read and of all the cars I've seen advertised something just doesn't add up.

those are wheel hp and torque i believe...
(not stupid at the crank measurements )

Back to my point. How can his at the wheel torque be 388 ft. lbs, when the manufacturer only rated it at 384? Hmmm. Maybe Alpina underated the power like the Ford and Chevy used to do.

note that it is only the exhausts that are glowing,no wonder turbosthemselves have rather large oil volumes going through em.On a dyno running hard a NA car would maybe have the exhausts glowing too????

after a interstate run the manifold where it necks down into the turbo would glow on my old 760 volvo, a harder romp would get it harder, i never thought to check it out during a autocross of which i did a few (understeering body rolling tire smoking pig :D )

Autocross probably wouldn't have been enough to make it glow. It takes some time with sustained heat to get enough of a build-up to make things glow. Pretty rare where you can have the throttle wide open for more than 4 or 5 seconds at an autocross. :)

I figured out why this motor glows so much...


its only got throttle on/off... see the toggle switch where teh AFM would inlet? hahaha

with the automatic i was on the throttle just about the whole way around to keep the boost up, lag is a bitch on a short track with a slushbox, our parking lot x's were under a minute for two laps and never out of 2nd, after i figured out getting off of the throttle was too slow i picked up several seconds by keeping the turbo spooled up and just powerbraking through the turns, so it wouldn't suprise me if it had a good glow going, i just let it idle between runs to keep from cooking the oil in the turbo

Ahh, you're probably right then. :) Never tried autocrossing with anything that could be driven like that...sounds like it would have been fun, in an abusive kind of way. :D
