Yesterday a rubbing noise started in my steering wheel when turning. Everything is working fine. I have not pulled the wheel off to check yet. Anyone have any suggestions? Have not checked out the Bentley yet!. What are things to watch out for when pulling the wheel off?

Is it a kinda scraping, squeaking sound? seems to happen when it's gotten colder? Others have found that when the steering wheel is removed that there is some kind of copper paste on the washer and connection that needed to be smeared around again. I think you might have to disconnect the air bag device when taking the wheel off. There might be instruction on Bruno's site or someone else might chime in with the instructions posted somewhere.

Nice info with pics. You will find a lot of copper dust there.
Easy job.

the brass ring for the contacts. If you smear it around on the areas that have been wiped clean it usually takes care of it. Here's the steering wheel removal procedure for the airbag equipped cars

I think you have told the entire BMW world to "disconnect the Battery".

I have taken it to heart and printed out the hint and will follow very carefully when I fix my squesking wheel this spring. Of course it will be warm and no squeak then. I think this what I did last year! :) THanks for the great hint.
