Hello,

first off I´m from Germany so my grama is a little bad (half American but it´s been a while since i have had to write :(

Anyway my M50 with vanos is anoying me with lifter ticking until it fully warms up (water gauge).

Tryed different Oils (Castrol 10W40, Lubro-Moly 5W40 and Castrol RS 0W-40) and still have the same problem. But runs most quiet with the 0W-40 when warmed up ;)

Any clues?

edit: already used the search ;)

My car sounds like a diesel when I start her up in the winter cold. Runs smooth but sounds tough. Once she is all warmed up you do not even hear the engine. My car has 205k kms on it and never had any mechanical problems with it.

First off thanks for the quick reply :)

Well when i bought the car it didnt have the problem (20tkm ago) it either startet when i changed from shel helix 5W30 to 10W40 ore when i dogt it right away going home from the dealer (oil warm) ore when i put some lifter cleaner in from lubro-moly and took it out after about 1k (have a slight ratteling noise while aceleration between 2k and 3k rpms but that is only heard when I´m going through town when the sound bounces off the walls of the houses. That´s why i put it in.)

damn my grama must be bad :( lol

are you using a synthetic oil now? If not I would recommend it, flows faster when cold even compared to conventional oil and a few people have claimed that it quited the vanos up a bit on startup.

The Lubro-Moly 5W-40 and Castrol RS 0W-40 are both fully Synt.

I was thinking about trying out Motul 300V Competition 15W-50?!

Can you get regular Mobil1 15W50? I run it year round in mine and do not suffer from lifter noise....

Got releaved from the tick *wheew*

I put in Mobil 1 SAE 0W-40, and at first was worryed because the engine soundet like sh... now silent as can be, still ticks on some days more ore less but i would say that the M1 is doing some cleaning and that sounds worse at that moment :)

took about 3tkm for it to quiet down, now after 5tkm it´s all good...will change after 7tkm more and then it should be perfekt :)
