I did some troubleshooting on my reverse lights issues -- the problem is that they only work maybe half the time. This is a '92 520i, with manual transmission.

Would this likely be an issue with the LKM? Is there a fairly inexpensive fix for this?

circuit is very simple, Fuse F12 go to Reverse switch (Under the center console, closes when the reverse gear is engaged), go to bulbs in the rear of the car, go to ground. I would check, clean or replace the switch, as necessary, as the bulbs are already checked.

May be someone with manual gear car can explain us about the switch location and how to get access to it.

I'll try doing what you suggested. Thanks for the response

hmm, kinda hard to tell how to get to it from the drawing. I popped out the board below the shifter boot and looked under there to see how hard it would be to get to that -- looks like it may involve a lot of tearing apart. maybe i'll look at it later this weekend. unfortunately, may have to have a professional do it. oh well, thanks guys

Where is the switch for an auto? The flapper switch underneath the shifter handle is loose, could this be related?

range switch at the bottom of the shifter handle. see the paragraph starting with:

"Next, take a look at the auto/manual shift switch ..." at this link to Bruno's site, in order to service the range switch.
