well i am still currently plagued by my emissions problem. luckily, i'll be done with finals tomorrow afternoon, so i can go back home.

i've decided to just have a shop look at it, but from a couple things i've read, i've gotten the hunch that my K&N may have made my MAF go bad?

previously, i was advised on this board that it was a vacuum leak, which i have yet to deal with.

what else could it be? head gasket perhaps?

anyway, i just thought i would throw that option in there...considering all the other options i already have.

thanks in advance

MAF goes bad all the time regardless of filter type. Simply wear and tear that ruins the calibration.

i have 226k+ on my motor as well...maybe that is the culprit after all. thanks! :)

K&Ns can get oil on the MAF wire, but it can be cleaned off. It's not permanant damage.

would that throw off readings that much? wouldn't i get a fault code if the MAF was bad?

It's not bad, it just won't read correctly and the car will run poorly.
