Removing the oil pan and replacing the gasket on a 89 525i m20. My Haynes and Bentley books fail to mention a couple things - like the dipstick holder sticking out of the top of the oil pan. Anyone know the procedure? What do you need to remove? How do you remove the dipstick holder? So far I have the bell housing off and the oil level sensor off. Help...

the dip stick holder fits snugly into the pan via an O ring and secured at the top via bolt/nut.just pull the tube up with a bit of force and it will come off.been there done that............cheers

Thank you thank you thank you! There are also power steering hoses/pipes blocking a couple of the oil pan bolts. Is there a trick to maneuvering around these?
