How to remove side backrest.

I'm trying to remove the side backrest on my e34 touring (the back rest cushion closest to the door). I've removed that seat cushion but then I cannot find any bolts for the side backrest. I need this in order to access the upper suspension strut bolts.

Just pull and lift. They are hold down by clip at the upper top. No bolts.

Where should I pull? It's not easy to get hold of it as it is just a cushion. I'm afraid I rip out just the cushion and not the back plate. Should pull outwards at the top and up at the bottom or just up everything? I tried to pull up but it wouldn't budge.
