Well my drivers side exterior door handle would get stuck in the open position.

I found this thread:

http://www.bimmer.info/forum/showthread.php?p=31755&highlight=door+handle

Could not get the handle to adjust high enough to avoid the problem.

So I wanted to take the handle out to see what else could be done. Followed the process in the Bently for the most part.

Only thing I could not get done is to #4 in the above link: disconnect the locking linkage. So I did the rest of the steps thinking it would be easier to get the linkage disconnected, no luck!!!

So now the handle will not even go back into place to reinstall it. Best of all my shop light burned out the small bulbs that it uses and my rechargable flashlight is done too. :(

HHHEELLLPPP!!!

I think I need a beer.

I have had the same handle out on our old 93 740 once a few years ago.

got the handle out. Seems like a small ridge has developed over time on the handle. Trying to sand it down a bit. To see if that will fix the problem. Hope I can get it back in. Will try and post some pics later or tomorrow.

I sincerely hope you have tried oiling the handle.

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I just sprayed a fair amount of oil in through the access hole in the side of the door, and viola! good as new.

Please tell me you have tried oiling it :-)

:( :( :(

Did not.

Hope I can get it all back together today.

I did spray some "stuff" on the spring and every other piece that rotates.

Got 'er done :)

All back together and she works like a champ.

I highly suggest taking "NielsGalan" route first and try some wd-40 type stuff thru the hole on the aft side of the door. Just pop out the little black plug and fire away. :) If you have a look inside you should be able to see where you are spraying.
