Hello,
I purchased a 95 540i automatic a couple of months ago. Car is in need of a little TLC. I am working out the "little" quirks and problems. The latest thing I am experiencing is yesterday when accelerating, check engine light comes on for a second and power dies at 4000 rpm, seems like rev limiter. Over the past 2 months this happened maybe once, I was low on fuel and thought maybe I was a lot lower than I thought. I just changed the fuel filters 2 days ago. Related somehow? Any suggestions on where to start looking for the issue? Go to BMW and have them run diagnostics?

The problem exists under hard or slow acceleration, @ 4000 rpm. Under normal auto shift program it shifts at about 3700 3800 rpm so not a problem. In manual mode or sport is where the problem arrises. It is only a second of power loss, car runs normal once it it has its little blurb.
Thanks for any help!

do a stomp test and see what the code is trying to tell you first.
