Is it worth it? I'm about to drain and refill my cooling system with a new water pump and hoses. Should I even bother driving all the way out to the stealer and paying the $20/gallon?

you should just do a search because this topic has been discussed many times.

yea, bma's price will offset the dealer price after shipping.

use Zerex G-05. available at most auto parts store for around $9 per container.

i did extensive research, and the stuff is very very similar (and approved by mercedes benz, audi, etc)

Agreed, got my radiator, new shroud, clips and other misc. stuff and Partrick recommended the Mercedes coolant over the BMW coolant, same stuff (he said) but different color, ask him about it.

OK, I'll ask them when I call them today. Thanks for the recommendations.

I'm having my leaky water pump replaced tomorrow. Currently there is green coolant in the system - am I to understand BMW requires a special coolant?

coolant is coolant ( use the one made for aluminum blocks) as long as you change it every at least every two years. my .02

For as much as I change my coolant, ill spend the extra 3 dollars a year and use the "cool blue" BMW stuff.

Everybody needs to do what they're most comfortable doing when it comes to coolant. I agree that the most important thing is to change it every two years, just like we change our brake fluid, right? Sounds like to Mercedes stuff might be worth trying. Remember that BMA waives shipping on orders more than $50 and you get an online 10% discount with the code "dotinfo" in the order screen. Just did this the other day, pretty easy to reach $50 with oil & air filters, etc, etc.

i think the big difference is the ability to drive 3 miles and pick up zerex g5 versus having something shipped.

one bad thing (in my opinion) is that G05 is light yellow in color.

I believe someone on here indicated that some time ago, that the "phone price" equals the "dotinfo discount"...

I've never ordered off the site, so I can't compare apples to apples.

Buying over the phone is blind trust. I agree with nearly everyone...Patrick and Ives are great....they say they "have already added a discount" everytime....Hmm OK if they say so.

Hmm, I didn't realize that. It probably is useful to ask for the discount while ordering on the phone then. The website is pretty handy, esp. if you know exactly what you want and don't have any questions.
Good to know that discount is available both ways!
Go BMA!

On that note, when I went to Autozone to get coolant for the girlfriend's Camry, they said they stopped carrying it. Dunno whats up with that. Advance auto parts didnt have it either.
