E34 Water Pump Replacement

Is this a DIY job or should a real mechanic replace your water pump?

Depends on how much of a DIYer you are ;)

I'm about to do it for the first time. It doesn't look tremendously tricky; it just takes a lot of steps and a lot of patience. And, as always, you have to be careful to do each step correctly.

It really depends on the car.
The 525i M20 the timing belt has to be removed, pretty major.
535i, not a big job, fan cluch and shroud should be removed
525i M50: a little bit less room but doable.

The V8s not sure.

I got a guy - he's doing it for $125 - I supplied the pump. Just not a job I wanted to do. I just did the brakes myself and feel the need to stay clean.

i definitely did my water pump on M50 in under an hour.

The mechanical is not that tought. Making sure that all the air is out of the cooling system before the car is delivered is the bigger task.
