I will be adding a Pioneer CDX-M30 6-Disc Changer to my 1992 525i. The wiring harness is already in the trunk - my question is - how do I control the changer with the factory AM/FM Pioneer Cassette? What buttons do what? Thanks.

you may need a adaptor to hook the rectangle plugged aftermarket pioneer changer to the factory round plugged car, i can't remember who sells them, somebody here will pipe up. controling it is easy with the factory head unit, the band button selects the cd (it's just added to the list of stuff am fm tape it switches between) the preset buttons select which disc in the magazine the the tuner arrows navagate, pushed once it moves a track up or down held in advances or back cues into the track

I'll bite: More than likely you'll need the BMW/PIO Interface cable. Here's are some links:

Hope this helps.

I am slightly confused - why would I need the BMW to Pioneer adapter when the head unit is Pioneer and the CDX-M30 is also Pioneer?

I am replacing the head unit on my car with an in dash Clarion CD player and will have the changer and cables available Monday at the latest...if you are interested in that.

I already have the 6-Disc Changer and the head unit is the factory installed Pioneer AM/FM Cassette deck - so I don't need yours. But thanks.

the cdxm30 was not a factory changer but speaks the same language so it can be used with the bmw head unit, i have a cdx m30 in my 90 325is and a factory cdx 091 in my 90 535 and a cdx m6 in moms 90 325is, the m6 is another version of the m30, with a 90 and older bmw head unit you can use the cable that comes with the changer to plug into the head unit, 91 and up new style headunits have a different data plug on the back and you need to use the bmw cable but that won't plug into the m30 so you need a adaptor

Where can I get the adapter? The factory harness in the trunk is a round connection, the connection on the changer is rectangular. Any help is appreciated.

If your Changer is either a CDX-M80/90/91, I would very much be interested in it. The CDX-M30 I have is not plug-n-play in my 1992 525i. My email is: igotoxs@comcast.net

all of mine are installed in my two cars and moms car, the m30 will work with the plug, the manager at my shop had a 92 525 and he installed a m30 in it with the plug and it worked great, i found a plug the other day while cutting a 1/4 panel off but it was in a water dammaged car and all of the contacts were rusted away so i tossed it, they are not too hard to find i think i've seen them on ebay from time to time

I have a available in excellant condition. I had to remove it when I added an Alpine navigation system. I'll take any reasonable offer. The adapter cable is included.
e-mail me if you know anyone interested.
