I finally took the time to fix my sunroof switch. The bulb inside the switch had died. The local hobby shop train section has several types of miniature bulbs. I bought the 12V red bulbs.

It's pretty simple, remove the switch from the panel, disconnect the harness and remove the outer shell. Watch out for the small spring when disassembling the switch.

Use a good, hot soldering iron and remove the old lamp. Trim the wires of the new lamp to 2" or so, expose the wire and resolder using small diameter rosin core solder. It helps to have three hands!

The red bulbs are not the same color as the interior lighting. Further, the bulb does not shine as brightly. I may try doubling up the lamps. But a friend had a better suggestion. Buy the clear lamps and paint them with Tamiya turn signal orange or some such color for model cars. I'll bet this will blend in better with the stock lighting and be brighter.

Cheers,

Roland
