Weekend overnight backpack into central Washington. Location's called "ancient lakes". That's the Columbia River gorge in out in the distrance. In the first pic, you can see the tents setup below.

Those are AWESOME! Used to do some backpacking with the Scouts in my younger days...makes me want to pick it up again!

Great shots! Thanks for sharing.

And you certainly don't look like you're in my neck of the woods either. Very nice pictures Jeff. I soooo envy peolpe who can get out into the middle of nowhere, fairly easily, relatively close to home. The only way I can get away from civilization completely is if I go about 25 miles to the east of me. Of course that puts me in the friggin' ocean, but....... :p :p :p

Thx for the nice words. Fun to share. My buddy Patrick took a world class shot in that second picture - does look right out of a catalog!

Looks beautiful, thought I'd share on from a recent trip. just moved from British Columbia, where i held a forestry field position for two years. As wonderful as your lunch breaks are, a slightly more urban existance has its advantages as well.

Nice alpine Dave!! Where in BC is this again? Can you give me a city or something that it's close to?

Tried to upload a map to photobucket, but it wasn't happening tonight. Kananaskis is just east of Banff (west of Calgay Alberta), or @ 2 hours east of Golden BC. Great area for Hiking/Camping. If no frills, non-crowded (relative to Whistler/Aspen), but incredibly reliable snorkel Skiing is an interest, then try SE BC, Nelson, Catlegar, Fernie etc. Some real small places, somewhat tough to get to. Heli skiing near Clearwater/Blue River on HW 5 north of Kamloops. Also, the Lillooet (west of Kamloops on the old gold rush trail) is fantastic for getting lost in narrow, sub-alpine valleys. My favorite area to work in.
Let me know if you plan on heading north and maybe I could be of help. Your dollar goes a long way in some of the smaller places.
