How critical is it to have the same exact tires on all four corners?

Does it hurt the drive-train to have the same size tires, P265/70/17, Goodyear tires on rear of truck and have Michellin on front??

Someone told me the tires should be same exact all around otherwise you damage the differential? Sounds crazy to me but who knows, could be true somehow.

What do you think?

different brands of the same size can be different diameter and while in 4wd can put undue stress on the diffs from different rotational speeds, now if it never leaves 2wd it's not really a problem
