the leather is rotting from the oil in your hands or if you use lots of hand lotion (and don't remove it before driving :) ) once it gets to the point you can't stand it you can cut the leather off and see how you like the rubber that's underneath, i kinda like it some hate it, just a option to try before shelling out for another wheel
wheel seems to be turning to mush, like tar or soft glue at the grip points. I just threw some conditioner on it.
