ONE ///M5 TO RULE THEM ALL

More later, just teasers for now. I did most of the mods yesterday and drove 150km at night so I had no time for pics. Took some today right before work. I'm going to try to put it into words how I feel. But here it is for now...I have a hard time breathing when I drive it and I can't stop smiling here at work:

That blue/white combo has always been my favorite. And the tiny little //M is kinda nice looking too! Maybe Jr. has some competition for this year's crown?? :p

That’s a sweet ride. Love that color! That blue was my first choice in color but unable to find one in that color for my 1995 525i purchase.

No I had the Mtech2. The hub is from an E30 and it fit perfectly. Exact same hub.

It's got the SSK for the MZ3.

Thanks a lot guys! Just came back from another 150km drive. This way my initial dino-oil break in stage will be done in a weekend hehe (1k km). It was supposed to be a lunch cruise, showing off to coworkers. But they all liked the car so much and we have a long weekend coming up so no one wanted to go back to work. So I just drove around, visited my old highschool, went to see the engine builder - talked about getting it on the dyno for a proper fuel map.

i hate ignorant people.
http://webdesign.about.com/library/weekly/aa123002a.htm

640x480 is not dead
While 640x480 is not as required as it used to be, 640x480 is still around. Older computers, laptops with smaller screens, and people who need larger fonts do browse the Web. Even if you choose not to design your page to this resolution you should test your site at this resolution.
800x600 is not guaranteed
Many Web site design guides recommend designing Web sites for 800x600 resolution. While this resolution is more common on the Web at large, this may not be the case for your customers. If you're planning on redesigning your Web site, take a few weeks to analyze your browser statistics to determine the most common resolutions used by your customers.
1024x768 and higher are still less common
This resolution can be fairly hard to read for many people. A 14-inch flat panel monitor might support 1024x768, but the text is virtually unreadable. Also, many computers sold are set up with lower resolutions by default.

http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp

Browser trends is important information. What you can read from the statistics below, is that Internet Explorer 6 is the dominating browser, XP is the most popular operating system, and most users are using a display with 800x600 pixels or more, with a color depth of at least 65K colors.

http://www.upsdell.com/BrowserNews/stat_trends.htm

A small majority of users have 1024x768 and higher. A large minority have 800x600. A very small and shrinking number, ~1%, have 640x480. These numbers do not include those who browse using web appliances.

but back on track to the topic....
its a common courtesy on internet forums to shrink your
images to 640x480 since there are many people on 56k
(lets drop the resolution thing)

Congrats BigD! Huge! Hard to put into words isn't it?...assembling all the pieces and then creating a masterpiece. When you get a chance we would all love to hear about how it went back together...how it drives now compared to before...any mods done to the motor when apart etc.
Great going...a challenge to rebuild a motor so complex.

bahnstormer: I'm a web/database programmer so I'm hardly ignorant (incidentally yes all our sites are designed for the lowest common denominator, being 800x600). But these are my private photos and if you can't view them, I can't say I give a ****. Upgrade your explorer which will resize it automatically to fit your screen.

Jeff: a pair of TURBOS!!! Nah, just ellipsoids. My mechanic hasn't installed them yet because he's waiting on the clips.

George: my mechanic says it idles better than any S38 he's ever seen, including when basically brand new. The flywheel rattles a bit because he says when they get that light they're basically impossible to balance perfectly. It's so rev happy. Downshifting is just a pleasure! You breathe on the pedal and the needle goes. I obviously haven't pushed it yet but I will let you know what it feels like when it's ready for it. Once it's broken in it is going on a dyno and getting a proper fuel map. The COMPLETE story of the rebuild is here:

Congratulations Dmitry!!!

I know you are thrilled, to say the least, to have your M5 back. Good things come to those that wait, and wait and wait...=) It's a lot of time and money, but some things are worth it.

Enjoy the new ride, she looks absoulutely gorgeous. Keep your damn foot out of it until you get her broke in too!!! =)

Again, congratulations Dmitry!

together ok, seems a shame to pull the recaro's though...but i can't blame you, I'd hang onto them though in case you ever want to sell the car...

Great story Dimtry!...really enjoyed it. Couple of questions...is your E-28 winter car Bruno's old car?...if so, I have been in it...why didn't you take it to driving school? :-)
Took brass balls to bluff that cop...I'm never gonna play poker with ya...hehe.
Lastly, you mentioned installing M-parallel's...your pics show Throwing Stars....what's the scoop there?
Congrats Dimtry on getting your pride and joy back on the road....bet the car is amazing.

another thing comes to mind.... a fancy house is nice, but afterall, they are only to live in. :-) The recent three M posts...yourself, Jason and Matt and of course the response that Jr's beautiful M5 evokes...really captures the passion of the car hobby. The only other place a man will throw so much money at something...is the other thing he loves...his women. Dmitry just want to say...man..."we understand." Someone once wrote...you can always tell what a man loves...that is where he spends his time....and I would add..where he spends his money too...hehe.

Gosh what a beautiful color. I was so close to buying a 530iT blue and white but it failed the leak down test, which kept the owner after me for months claiming it wasn't so.

For me the M5 body kit, mainly that front two tone bumper cover is really what makes the car.

One of these days I will find an exploded M5 3.8, that I will pick up for the pieces. Maybe rebuild the motor and make me an M5T

Congrats on your patience and persistence. Makes the enjoyment that much more satisfying. Some clear side markers would really set off those front turn signals nicely

way to go

Thank you so much guys! I think I've finally come up with an analogy for how I feel. Imagine yourself being 5 years old again. Your parents show you the sweetest lollipop you've ever seen, they let you lick it a couple of times, then they rip it off, laugh, let you lick it again, and then take it away and wave it in your face for weeks. Imagine what it would taste like when you finally got it back.

I've had it for a day and a half and it has over 800kms on the motor already. :D

I just came back from helping out at a track day was great fun. One thing I still can't believe is how easy it is to drive slow. Cruising at 120 it is just a dream. I took several ~200km trips and not one felt strenuous.

Bill: yeah, all the stock parts are staying. I don't plan to ever sell it but I want to use the stuff in the winter rust bucket. Heated Recaros for winter, mmm. :)

George: Very well put, thanks a lot! Yeah it's Bruno's old car. It's got problems that are ignorable for a rustbucket, but not on the track. Stuff like really stiff steering from a seized strut bearing, busted center bearing, parts of the floor that feel like cardboard...stuff like that. :D My friend and instructor Will Zaraska gave me his car to use at the track. If you guys liked my repair writeup, you might like the track day writeup:

http://www.strengthandhonor.ca/tremblant/

The guy with the M Parallels disappeared off the face of the earth for a few weeks and I thought the deal was dead. My friend dealing with him says he got in touch with him finally and he says he got kicked out of the house, and is living at his University. No word on the rims but I don't see why it shouldn't go through.

530iTouring: I know, I'm in love with it. I was always looking for an Avus Blue car but then I saw this thing, and I loved it even more. How it looks just blue in some light, and in other, it's this sweet deep metallic blue. Almost mesmerizing. At the track today there were 993 Turbos and M3s and my car was drawing the biggest crowds. :P

I am really torn between painting the rears red or putting in clears. Reds look stunning on light cars (like your silver, or white, and Avus Blue). But I think Mauritius is too dark, and it would be best with clears, as you say.

Anyone looking at pictures on an 800x600 display deserves to have to scroll. Resize to 640x480?! Are you joking? My laptop runs 1400x1050... my other one runs 1920x1200... 640x480 looks like 4 checker squares... cmon now.
