I have a 1990 525 and yesterday while driving it simply stopped running. The starter turns and there seems to be power to everything but still no fire in the engine. Anybody have this happen so I know where to start... Ignition coil, distributer, fuel pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

and a mechanic told me it was my crank sensor. So I bought a new one and it turned out my old one wasn't bad it was just dirty. so I cleared the dirt and it fired up. If there is any way to get a mechanic to it they have a little tool that tests for exactly what part is giving you the problem. I still have that crank sensor too if you find out its that and need one.

My 92 735iL suddenly died while cruising down the highway. I cleaned the crank sensor to no avail. Changed the coil and that still didn't help. Finally changing the ECU fixed it.

This happened to my old 525i, and it turned out to be a burnt wire in the harness.

This happened to me last week, it was the fuel pump. Driving around no problems next thing, loses power, then cuts out.

The AA were right on it in diagnosing the fuel pump and when my mechanic checked it, sure enough it was.

A new one in NZ plus fitting cost me $NZ800.

lets try seeing if you have spark, then fuel then post again?
