Bigger wheels on lowered car?

Right now I have a 95 525i with bavarian autosport springs which have lowered the car approximately 1.25-1.5 inches. I'm running 16" wheels on the car, what is the maximum size I could fit on my vehicle without compromising turning/handling etc.? Thank you.

Id say no more than 17". you could probably get away with 18"

so you may be able to get away with less sidewall than people with stiffer springs and still have a manageable ride.

Of course, with lowered springs that aren't as stiff as others, you'll bottom out more often and when you do, your teeth might regret 18's! Turning and handling are probably okay with 18's but the ride might be too harsh unless, as someone said (GM?) "your roads are like billiard tables".

I've ridden with 15's and 17's, and I prefer the latter, but I personally wouldn't go any bigger for fear of too harsh a ride over the everyday roads.

17" wheels are all you need. youll be feeling way more bumps if you go any higher

no Phil, i am not questioning your "unquestionable" knowedge but, for example as you would know (owning one) a 540i should only have "light" alloys fitted...aside from "size" i am always concerned about the safety issue when fitting wheel and/or tyres on cars..... it is better to be sure, than sorry : ( is all im saying ... sorry if i was taken the wrong way, i do apoligize....

well, im pretty sure that 17" is your best bet. some people can tolerate 18", most cant. thats why i said probably. i agree, size dont matter.. thats why i still got my stock 15". other than the fact i cant afford bigger ones. hahaha

Phil.....(translated) there is nothing wrong with stock 15" wheels , in fact there is nothing wrong with having a stock standard 540i...god knows this is a fact because he drives one....and why wouldn't he? lol

If you're going to upgrade suspension (springs, shocks, sways), you're going to want to bump up the wheel size too, because stock 15"s have too much sidewall flex, won't fit with the rest of the setup. I drive 18" everyday, it's not that uncomfortable to me, and run 16" at the track (18" tires are too damn expensive to beat the hell out of!)

Absolutely no compromises with turning/handling/safety tho, the 18"s are just fine.
