how much would it cost? approx?

The price is $499 shipped. These are full carbon fiber hoods.. not carbon fiber overlay. Typically would be around $1000 just for the hood.

We need two more for the narrow grill (would fit your car) before we can get this started.. no pressure though =)

Very tempting. What timescales are we talking here, for me to get the cash up together, and would it be possible to ship to the UK?

To answer all questions:

1) Shipping to Canada will cost $150-200 more through our product producer.

2) Shipping to South Africa will be very pricey. Don't know how much, but can find out if you email me that you are interested.

3) The hood is full Carbon Fiber and will probably weigh in the area of 15lbs.

If you are interested please email me at Olek@importxdream.com

Any chance of the light weight leading to buffeting at high speed?

Good point Jeff...Check the date on suddenly appearing group buys that are almost filled up.

Did anyone here end up getting one of these?

It was probably worth it if you replaced one damaged in a crash, I think they are comparable in price.

After that group buy fell apart, I did contact another place (http://www.importprecision.com/) that made CF hoods for E30s and E36s.

I did send him this thread so he could provide direct information.

I'm in for a WIDE GRILL if this price point holds true.

They will also need a 'donor' hood.

Here's his latest reply:

Ramon,

If you got 10 I could get them to you at about the normal price we sell
hoods for (approx $300+shipping). I'll need to send a pic over of the hood
and see how hard my guy thinks it will be to make the mold. From there I can
get you a estimate on the mold price, taking into account the order
quanitity.

Shouldn't be too hard, but we do have other molds being made so I will have
to check on an ETA. If you have a forum thread I can reference I can post
information directly.

Hi guys, I'm Bill, the guy that makes the CF hoods at importprecision.com/deftracing.com. I make hoods for myself and my car and lots of other cars. I'm really just an enthusiast that fell into this job and I'm loving it. For that reason I like to hop into threads and just answer questions. Go ahead and ask anything you like... if i don't know the answer right off I'll figure out who i need to talk to to get it for you.

Yes, I know the price is cheap but that wasn't including the mold. But with 10 confirmed people you might only see $100 more on the mold...we'll see though. But so you know, I'd much rather someone find a great price and not haggle with me than try to squeeze every penny and never get a referral.

For the international guys, here's some of the places I have shipped recently and the price on shipping. These may be different... gas prices seem to go up daily, but you'll get a good estimate at least. (just my notes, certainly not the gospel).

My question is Why? IMO, you gain very little in weight savings if you track. Again, IMO, it could look cheap and a bit/lot out of place if not painted. If painted, bet the finish will not look "correct".

I just do not see the reasoning. Just an opinion

As well I'm interested in E28 hood/trunk too! Looking on taking on a project.

As for tracking the E32? No, Showing it? Yes, Black w/ Blue pearl paintjob, CF hood/trunk, 10% tint all around on 19's, the CF would look good if it exsisted, if not, no biggy. These cars are boats so anything weight savings wise is nice.

It could look good, it could not look good. James (allshowngo), I think your idea would be pretty sweet. It depends on the color scheme that you attach the c/f to, or, if you're tracking your car, then function over form.

tastefully...shite - if its black carbon fibre, the carbon fibre will only be visible up close - otherwise it will look like a replacement panel thats not been painted yet - complete waste of moneyBah. Matt black bonnets look great... :) esp. at the track with a number in the middle :)

So........what ever came of this guy who was brokering the deal for the group buy on the E34 Cf hoods ?
I would assume, for the low price, that these hoods were to be made with only a single top visable layer of CF and the rest to be black gelcoated fiberglass ?
Also ...for the low price, I'd asume these are made in the "open mold, wet lay-up" method and NOT Vacuum Infusion or Auto claved Pre-preg CF ?
Any news...........??

Ewww. If that's the case, nevermind.

..........And I wasn't mentioning that their quality was substandard or anything like that. I was simply making a guess based on what materials alone go for when done in the more advanced methods and materials. Those systems would have much more invested per product for the superior end results and durability.
For 300 bucks.....hell, thats STILL a low price for the work, IMHO.
But a higher end hood in full cf could range easily in the 650-1200.00 range. If not more cash for a less than often called for item. Hard to get the return margins met with such small run durations.
I still think a Silver or Black or Red E34 would look mean with a CF hood and deck spoiler.:p
