I'm realtively a newbie and am planning to tackle the waterpump on my car this weekend. I've read the previous posts and know that you need to take out the fan clutch by taking a 32mm wrench and whacking it towards the drivers side (so drivers side direction loosens the clutch)...my question is.......

1. When re installing the new fan clutch how tight does the new one have to go on? It seems like the fan rotates towards the drivers side when the car is running so one would think that it would have to be pretty tight to prevent the fan clutch from spinning off.

Am I correct on this?

The fan clutch doesn't need any more than hand tightening. The reverse threads allow the accelerating motor to snug it down.

i replaced mine on my '93 525i M50tu. The hard part i found was making the tool to hold the fan still so i could undo the nut. you need to find some way to hold the bolts on the pulley so the 32mm nut doesn't spin the motor, it will spin the motor trust me.
