Went to take the lil girl to school this morning and no blower (not even on high). Was a cold ride. Thinking about all the possibilities and was stuck in traffic on the way back. All a sudden it started blowing while on speed #2 and also worked on all speed settings. Nothing triggered it like a bump or jolt, just sitting still idling in park. None of the controls worked either such as AC, rear defrost or re-circ and neither did the button lights. I am guessing a bad connection or ground. Where do I start troubleshooting this?

Might be a contact problem. Had a similar problem with my aux fan, turned out that some contacts were oxidized, used contact spray on all connections including the spades of the relays and it worked again.
Pull the control module and check the connectors, spray with contact cleaner/enhancer.

What and where?

IHKA control panel in dash, backside has connectors
IHKA control modules behind dash next to the heater sword, 2 connectors on each side of the center console, and the sword connector, details pinout based on my E32, but probably same on your car if it is IHKA

white connector X610 'A'
1-4 stepper motor fond area
5 heater sword
6 aux fan
7 rear window heater relays
8 climate control relays

See the connectors, they are marked with small numbers outside. the SWORD has a 5 pin connector

Pin 1 connector for the potentiometer for speed regulation at the control panel.
Pin 2 power supply
Pin 3: the relay get's contact when the blower fan potentiometer is adjusted, 12 volts come on.
Pin 4 is ground
Pin 5 the cable/wire from the blower fan.

On my website below there are pics how to resolder the IHKA control module

The issue reared it's ugly head again today. Swapped relay #4 in the front distribution box with donar car. Issue resolved. Swapped back to make sure and the relay was the problem. Just for fun I brought the bad relay inside for a while to warm up and it does work again. It will reside in the doner vehicle.

maybe you can re-solder it, open it up and check for cold solderings

Replaced with doner relay, done deal.

Everything I researched was the resistor pack/sword and the issue was a relay never spoken about is my point.

Any larger relay is a suspect for problems at 20 years in any beast ;-)

Even an aging garage queen, which she certainly isn't
