Yesterday I got the 'Brake LT Circuit +' display. Checked the brake lights and they were working fine. I have not had a chance to look into this yet.

Just a little while ago the drivers door was unlocked while all the rest were locked, tried to open the windows (with key in on position) No deals so I tried to start the engine.... again no deals. Got out of the car and used the key to unlock the passenger door since it wouldn't work from inside.

Looked in the fuse box under the hood, saw nothing unusual and tried to start it again. Zoom zoom zoom like nothing ever happened. Windows and everything work fine too.

Went for a test and the brake display came on again.

What is going on here or is this some sort of fluke? Loose bulb filament? Security system function?

After the BRAKE LT CIRCUIT there is a + on the right of the display, that indicates the right side light?

+ sign means you have more faults than can be displayed, push the button in the cluster and you get more faults shown, see also owners manual.
Brake light circuit usually mean electric problem, in this case the brake light switch http://www.nmia.com/~dgnrg/page_25.htm

As for the brake light switch: I just remember that there are 2 versions, 2-pin and 4-pin, not sure what fits your car. Better check before you order a new one.

Installed a new switch and the warning light has stayed off for a few days. Took the old one apart and cant see any problems or oxidation, probably could be fixed with contact cleaner but a new switch for 10 bux is a no brainer. I read up on the project and prepared but no need, this was a very simple operation that took less than 10 minutes. Next new bimmer with a brake warning will get the switch first thing even before checking the bulbs.

When light bulbs blown the message is different, you can check by pulling out a bulb.

You can try a new trick on my website, BRAKE LIGHT CIRCUIT , CHECK CONTROL FAULT MESSAGE REPAIR:
insert a #22 bare wire (0.025”) into Pin 7 of the Green CCM connector. It's the middle contact of the back row. And the rest of the story with pics is here http://twrite.org/shogunnew/fixes/brakecalipers.html

It's a PDF file but very interesting, From checking the switch I saw a little oxidation dust but nothing to think of. But worth spraying off with cleaner. PDF here: http://twrite.org/shogunnew/files/E32_BRAKE_LIGHT_CIRCUIT_REPAIR.pdf
