Hello folks.

My oil warning light takes 2-3 seconds to go out after starting on my '89 535. Is this something I need to worry about? I've done a search and found reference to the check valve in the oil filter canister going AWOL. If it's that, will I damage the engine by running it in this condition? Anything else it might be or can I just ignore it and relax?

Car has done 155K miles btw.

TIA

Dan

You should fix it. Your engine is taking too long to bring up the oil pressure on startup - the highest lubrication related wear point.

Check out Bruno's solution at racingking parts. Or, you can order up a new canister - about $275 if I recall. (Both fixes cheaper than a new engine!)

Thanks. I was afraid someone would say that. I've only had the car for 500 miles so it's a bit annoying. Oh well.
