I'm investigating the difference between e39 rear shock/strut and an e34 ones. Has anyone got an e39 strut they can measure?
- overall height
- tube height
- tube and mount height
- tube diameter
- piston diameter
- spring seat, distance from lower bolt centre
- spring seat distance to end of fully extended piston...
and if you can, the height of an e39 rear spring.
They look remarkably similar to the e34 struts, despite the differences in the rest of the suspension design. See below;

Why? I'm trying to figure out if it is remotely possible to retrofit an Self Levelling Suspended (eg. LAD-equipped) e34 touring with e39 SLS struts. They are half the price!!
