Can one replace just the fabric lining of the sunroof panel...

without removing the entire headliner? My headliner is in quite decent shape but the fabric from the sliding panel is falling off. I've read through past posts and it seems that while you can remove the sunroof exterior panel, it appears that you first unclip from the panel a board to which the fabric is attached and slip the board back into headliner cavity. That would would lead me to believe that when one wants to replace the fabric of the panel, the whole headliner has to come out.

Please tell me I'm wrong!

Thank you, those are terrific links and I have looked at them but I still don't have my answer. Can one remove and replace the fabric lining of the 530i sedan (not touring) retractable sunroof without removing the entire headliner or cassette? Has anyone done it?

Thank you. The sunroof panel was super easy to remove and, as soon as it was free, the sunroof liner panel slid right out. Now to get it fixed and back in before it rains!
