My radio in my 95 525 started having the sound fade in and out. It would get quiter then no sound for a while the come back on.

Now no sound but occasionally it works for a few seconds. Lights and display is all on. No impact by listening to different sources ie cd am or fm. Fuses ok. Plug on back seems to be ok.

What do I look for? I did a search and could not find much help.
Thanks

If stock radio, maybe check amp in the trunk (rear left) and connectors?

Cleaned all connections to amp and stereo. The radio would not work at all on accessory. Started the motor and the radio would work for a while. Tested the battery - 12.1 v off. 13.6 v engine running.
Think the whole problem may be a bad battery? Going to get one now.

That is bad battery for sure... Charge up the battery and check the battery with battery tester.

Charging is not good either.

I would double check the fuse for the amp.

Well the battery was bad but so is the radio.
I took it out of the car and hooked it up on test stand to a power supply and one speaker. It will only play a short time then fades in and out then fades out completly and is dead. It Looks like a need a new radio.

Anybody have a spare stock radio to sell?

Sounds like an output transistor warming up and failing if it happens on radio and cassette, CD or aux. May be easy to fix with simple soldering, but new radios are nice with bluetooth and ipod connectivity. hardest thing is to get one that matches the dash and the BMW antenna, I have had good success with Alpine and JVC, the tuner in Sony, Pioneer and all the cheap brands have worked out totally crap for me. Try to get one with simple to use controls, they design them to sell to people who think only of fiddling first, and driving second.
