This VIN decoder can extract such information as : year, make, model, trim, engine, transmission,manufacturer, country of origin and options.

BMW uses these during transportation of their cars. To prevent killing the battery/safety when the car is being transported or just sitting in the warehouse, they disconnect the battery using this switch, that allows them to quickly reconnect when the car needs to be moved.

It's not an option even though listed like that. They are supposed to be removed when it's delivery time, but every now and then some make their way onto the market.

It's a huge and (very) heavy cable, which is why I never bothered fitting it.

You're better of getting one of those nice small ones.
