Boys & girls,
I went to a trim shop & they quoted me $125. per door panel to repair the interior and $550 to do the roof. I have the twin roof panels.
Is it possible to DIY, a good salvage shop or are there any other aftermarket alternatives.

John - I'm getting ready to do my headliner myself. Parts are about $50 at www.headlinerkit.com. Looks pretty easy to do. Bill R. just posted detailed instructions on getting it all off and back on, including the double sunroof. (Hell I thought I was the last one that still had a working double sunropof!) Search my posts, it was just yesterday I think. If the link is gone, I saved it as a pdf - just let me know if you want it.

The doors are easy. Some good glue (liquid nails, gorilla glue) does wonders.

Haven't undertaken it yet - re: my post regarding ANOTHER cooling problem!

John, I got the sunroof panels out today. It wasn't too bad. It feels like you're going to bend the front one getting it out, but it was okay. And the instructions for the rear one say to pull it forward (after it's uncliped), then push to one side and tilt down the other side. What they don't say is that you have to move it forward quite a lot to get enough room to push it to the side enough to tilt it out. There are some guides that get in the way that you have to get past to move it to the side.

I hoped I'd see some things i could tighten up to stop rattles, but just about all I see are rivets. I'm going to try and get the black seal that goes around the opening too. Mine has pulled away at the corners. Looks like it is just glued on though, can that be right?

Still haven't ordered my fabric. Maybe tomorrow.

I only picked up the wagon about 2 months ago so
I have some mechanical stuff to address first before I get to the cosmetics.
But I am keeping a close watch on your progress.
Can you e-mail me that file with the instructions, It was gone from the old posts.
Did download some other pictures of the removal process.

Hi John,

I am from Malaysia and own an E34. As it is extremely hot over here, we also suffer from warpping of the door panels, particularly the E34s. I have the same problem with the material warping, cracking, peeling and what have you.

So I took it to this auto leather specialist and he tore away the original material and reupholstered all door panels complete with German Leather, meaning from top to bottom, as well as the door inserts. Certain areas where there are curves/folds, joins were made with double-stitch work, which apparently made the door panels look better than the ori stuff.

This method solved all my problems for a very long time to come and looks gorgeous, too.

Were your charges of USD125.00 (per door) for the inserts only, or was it for the whole door with new skin/leather/PU ?

The costs for my 4 doors with full leatherwork was roughly USD 550.00.

Yeah I was quoted about the same.
