View Full Version : Turning the Key While Stepping on the Brake Makes it Easier (?)

OK, I've had some trouble turning my key ... Lots of posts on that. But I think I found a solution -- If it's not my imagination, ...

At the risk of sounding superstitious, my procedure for starting the car is to step on the brake before turning the key. I swear it seems to make it turn more easily. My indy checked it out and agrees, though he can't explain it.

Does anyone know why this might be true, or if it's simply not? Works for me ;-).

Ive only experienced this on cars which have been imported from Japan and theyve all been autos.

My wifes 2001 Focus does it, as did her 2000 Subaru GT-b before that and think our 2000 e39 touring did aswell, but Im so used to doing it now I cant remember which cars do and which dont.
