I have a bad right front ABS sensor in a 2000 528i E39. I ordered a new one but when I ran the diode test on it, it is reading OL. I should be getting about 1.8 to 2.0 volts. When you first get the sensors do they have a current or do you have to run them for a while to polarize them?

Maybe check to see if you have the later 'active' type of ABS sensor - you cant check them with a DMM on ohms. I dont have a Bentleys for the E39 but this might help:

I've never had to run them awhile, usually they will read on the scan tool immediately. I just replace them and drive the car watching the wheel speed on all four wheels with a scan tool.

Purchased a sensor locally and ran a diode test on it. Reading was 1.8 volts. Installed and all the trouble lights went out. So the sensor I purchased from an internet source was garbage. mpgautoparts.com. Won't buy from them again. Anyone know the male counterpart for the wheel pulse sensor connector. They are brittle. Been looking for them on line but no joy. Can read several numbers on the connector. Can find internet hits for 4-963505-1 it says its a connector but no other information. There is another number 1393748 with BMW stamped next to it but this number doesnt add up to anything.

I either use autoenginuity or a snap on modis, i actually prefer autoenginuity for bmw's

Test at the ABS module connector also. This will also indicate wiring issues. The connectors are crapola and prone to corroded pins, I've seen them completely dissolve.
At the module connector; pins 15 blue & 16 yellow are RF, 12 black & 28 blue/red are LF, 30 blue/green & 31 green are RR, 13 blue/white & 29 white are LR.
The diode test should indicate 1.4-1.8 & open when the leads are reversed.
Let me know if you still need a sensor, I probably have it.

Done and done. Right front sensor bad. Your right the connectors are crap very brittle. Purchased a sensor pricey little bugger. Shop price $70. Looking for replacements for the male connector side. Figured I can remove the contacts and slide them into a new connector. Contacted local dealer he said he doesn't think they are available
