In case your E32/E34 display is showing "CHECK CONTROL". Looking in the owners manual and all its telling you is "Defect in electronic system". Well that isn't telling you anything! Anyone know what could be wrong? Where/What can to check?

and here the wise answer from Gert rv8flyboy:

It means that the signal from the CCM module is either missing or bad, or seen as bad by the cluster.

The CCM sends a digital signal to the cluster every 100 milliseconds on a party line. If that signal is garbled or missing you will get that warning.

This party line is also shared by the OBC and CAN be shared by the radio, and telephone if so equipped.

Any module on this party line can be at fault.

list:
Cluster
CCM
OBC (you can pull this out to see)

Telephone (if so equipped)

Radio (generally radio models 1993 and up)

added comment by Johan:

From my experiance usually the check control message means there is a problem with the contacts on the check control or lkm modules. Remove them and clean the contacts (no wd40 please use contact cleaner spray) before reseating them. 90% change the fault is gone.
