Fellow Bimmer (6er) driver and whirlybird pilot, Gary Ticehurst died in a helicopter crash outback a few days ago (http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-19/gary-ticehurst-obituary/2846498).

I've never met him, but his company operates near here (http://www.filmhelicoptersaustralia.com/) (Northern Sydney).

A crying shame. He went down with mates he loved, doing what they loved- and were so good at. All of them experienced guys with outstanding careers and contributions to our communities.

May they all R.I.P. - with that carton of beer they were so famous for flying into camp with.

I was just running camera on a helicopter, piloted by an Aussie no less. Very talented, serious guy, just like every helicopter pilot I've met. It takes a lot of work to get to his postion, and it looks like these ABC guys were true pros. I'm sure I've seen their work without realizing it. No doubt, it's a risky business no matter how perfect the team. I would guess mechanical faliure. Do you know any more of the details around the crash?
