How do you remove the steering swivel joint?

I've loosened the lock nuts on the swivel joint as per the Bentley manual, but the thing still won't budge on the splined shaft. Any tips on how to move it without damage?

Lots of PB blaster is a good start. I believe after it is loose you can loosen the nut behind the wheel and slide it into the car to get clearance to remove it.
