Like the title says...

I took out the radiator out and changed it out (without removing the fan....which was sooo much less work and totally manageable) but I didn't know that I had to pull the tranny cooling lines to remove the radiator.

I ended up taking them off with minimal loss of tranny fluid but now there is NO WAY in Gods name that they are going in....Any advice?

The cooling lines are not the ones built into the radiator rather a separate mini radiator attached to the front of the radiator.

Thanks guys!

Not sure about your car... but it seems like alignment problem... so I would loosen up the radiator and try to get it in before you finally place the radiator into position.

The radiator is already mounted but the cooling hoses are flexible enough that they can be somewhat manipulated. It just seems that they just wont go into their holes for some reason!

I would appreciate more than one feedback as I need to get this beast back on the road.

Thanks guys!

check the threads, might be a different size? Never heard of such mishap.

That is the thing...they are not threaded.

Sorry for the horrible pic but this is all I could find.

This thing connects to the front of the radiator. In the bottom left where there are two hole. That is the in and out of the tranny cooling lines. They seem to push ones as they are smooth. But for some reason I am unable to push them in...I am going to try to give it a love tap in the morning but I would appreciate any other ideas.

p.s. I will look for a better picture

K found a picture

Transmission Fluid Cooling Lines - Halp - Bimmerforums - The Ultimate BMW Forum (http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1236056)

in the bottom picture hose 5 and 6 I am unable to push them into where 4 goes.

I have no idea why...they were a little snug getting off...but I dont understand why they wont go back in

Erm...yes it does. Click on archive. It is top of the list.

Anyway, you probably mean this bit and I agree the alignment is probably out. You tried to do it from the bottom?

yea I was in the bottom of the car (without it being on jacks) and tried to push it in.

Tomorrow I am going to bleed the brakes so the car will be on jacks. So hopefully I will be able to achieve a better angle (alignment)

I hope it is as simple as that.

If you loosen the radiator, it will allow the few degree of movement just so you can get the thread started. Radiator is easy to unlock and lock into place.

I FINALLY DID IT!

After some thought I decided to do the most obvious thing. I pour out some tranny fluid on my finger and rubbed it on the outside of the hose and the housing and with some wiggle it went in. Ahhh that was super frustrating but thank you all for your help!

Now it is time to refill the tranny fluid, get some new brake fluid in the car, and change out the rear diff.

Anyone change out their tranny mounting bushings? Advice? Difficulties?
