I got that infamous stress crack on the top of the tank, pulled it cleaned and sanded and used JB weld. Let it dry 2 days and it worked! (for 2 weeks). Now I can try it again but this time have to deal with grinding off the old JB weld and replacing it with something more pliable or find another tank.

I am opting for another tank because I will only do this 1 more time. Hate to go the ebay route and 300+ for a new replacement seems a bit pricy (plus shipping). Looked around on various forums to no avail. I can't drop the tank for repair for days, this is the only thing I am driving at the moment.

Any clues are appreciated, used ones up here are real rusty at the seams.

King's 32 miles from you says they have one clean no damage 40.00 bucks in detroit 313-366-5800....Precise auto parts distributors in macomb township has one for 39 bucks, says good on shelf, tested. #000179, the phone for them is 586-725-5900

How common is this problem? Don't recall reading about it previously. Where does the tank crack?

I don't think its very common. I've never seen it here. I only replaced my tank due to negligence on my part letting it sit too long with gas in it going bad, my tank got nice and rusty and gunky. It was cheaper to replace it for 40 with a clean one from a junkyard than it was to mess with cleaning out mine.

Thanks Bill, Detroit looks to be close. Derick A had the same crack on his tank on the top, not sure if the JB weld worked for him or not.

3 hour ride + one to wait for them to pull a tank they told me was already pulled.

Checked the rust on top of the seam and my finger went right inside.

I'm telling you all we have is garbage up here but will Saturday at Precise.
