Hi

I couldn't find a introduction section so I hope this is the right place to post.

I'm from South Africa, Cape Town and I'm 24 years old.
I recently bought a E34 540i 6 speed, but my first car is a 1991 E30 318i which I've had for 3.5 years now. I love E30's as they have so much character. I kept the 318i stock except for the wheels. The previous owner fitted the car with some old Nissan wheels just before he sold it. So that had to change.

My 318i:

I always loved old cars and the older BMW's are some of my favorite. I'm also a HUGE sucker for a V8. So when I found this E34 540i 6 speed I just had to have it. I bought it about 4 weeks ago.

Her in South Africa there were only 72 of these 6 speed 540's build. I got no. 9.
It came standard with:
* 6 speed manual
* M-Technic Body kit
* M-Technic suspension (About 30% stiffer than normal)
* STYL.21 Throwing Stars
* Sport Seats
* Traction Control

I hope I got all the naming right.

There's a few things that need attention, but over all it's in pretty good condition.
The CD shuttle doesn't work and I can't figure out why.
The phone I got with the car doesn't seem to work either.
My lighter sockets also don't work
It needs a new viscous clutch and fan blades (Already ordered)
I have also found the other day that it's leaking .4 fluid from the clutch. Can't figure out where though.
I have also found some bad rust behind the left rear light unit which I'm kinda upset about.
And then the alarm works, but sometimes it would go off for no reason.

None of the issues are really big apart from the rust. I am loving the power and it looks awesome. What more would you need :D:D

Welcome to the forum -
The search function is very useful as over time just about every quirk and concern for the e34 has been discussed - often at length.
I have found the members here are very knowledgeable and willing to help with advice that's reliable. Responses are not as quick as they once were, but the quality of the info has not diminished.
And, for the car - great looking piece - (same for the e30) - Enjoy.

That was only second and third gear pulls, but I sometimes think the same when I see vidz of other people testing their rides.

Besides the steering wheel being on the wrong side (Sorry Kriss) what do you mean by the rust comment? Perhaps pictures or whatnot to assess a proper fix.

These were taken with phone. It's rusted through to the inside. I'm pretty sure it will need to be cut out and a new piece welded back in. I haven't had the time to find out from a panel beater what's needed though.

Welcome! Love the colors and the sound! Bummer about the rust. that will definitely require some intricate body work. My guess is that the seal around the headlight dried out or someone didn't tighten it all the way.
