At 100kmh my tacho in my newly purchased 525i Touring (M50/auto) is reading about 1500RPM.
This seems somewhat low to me as my 535i was revving around 2000rpm at 100kmh.
I was wondering if my tacho was accurate?

Mine reads about 2700 RPMs.

That would equate to only 3000rpm @ 200kmh or 3750rpm @ 250kmh.
Something ain't right here I feel!:p

Just been out to the shops and this is what I just got with a warm engine:
30 mph 1500 rpm in 3rd (1000 rpm in 4th)
40mph 1500 rpm in 4th
60mph 1700 rpm in 5th (it doesnt change into 5th until you hit 50)
70mph 2200 rpm in 5th
Its 4 Deg C here and the results are for flattish roads with light throttle as in cruising. Under brisk acceleration it changes up a gear at 2K rpm in economy mode or 2.5K in sport mode.

Low RPM = Great fuel mileage! You can always check with inductive RPM meter.

Top gear is 0.74 and the diff is a 3.23 so its bound to have long legs:D
