Installed subframe bushes

But my problem is that I could not push them all the way in. there is a ~4mm gap that they would not push in any further. I was scared I would break the tool in doing so.

So the only thing I can think of is removing the subframe and getting them pressed in, which is not going to happen. It took me about ~10 hours to do the two bushes with a homemade tool.

I had them in the freezer and also put some p-80 lube on them before inserting.

When putting in the bushes, there is a slight edge in the subframe that the bushes should go in as. (see picture Picasa Web Albums - Kris - Subframe bush (http://picasaweb.google.com/Kristianandlily/SubframeBush#5556422848249548226))

I didn’t locate the bush correctly the first time and thought that was the reason they would not go all the way in. However on the other side, I located the bush correctly and it was like the other side, about ~4mm to and it was stuck there. :(

Any chance you could get them in the last bit using the weight of the car? One of mine stuck a bit near the end so I stood on the rear door sill

I never thought about putting my jack underneath there and doing it that way. Good idea. I will try one day in the future. thanks for that wiskychaser.

You may need a bit of wood above the subframe to stop it moving up, particularly on the nearside where the brake pipes run quite close to the bush (well they do on mine). Hope it works

The car at the rear seems significantly firmer now. You feel bumps more with the new bushes. The rear is quiet again. I replaced the rear shock mounts because one side had broken.

I replaced the old bumpstops with e36 328i items cut in half. These are the old items.
