Hi,
I have a E34 520ise 1990.
Recently the MPG Gauge has stopped working. Everything else on the instrument cluster (speedo, gauges etc) are working fine.
I can't seem to find what exactly sends a signal to the MPG gauge?
Can anyone help??
The MPG gauge twitches when I turn off the car so I'm guessing it's not the gauge that's dead but whatever it is that sends the signal.
I heard that if the SI backup batteries in the instrument cluster are dead this can cause problems but I've checked those and they're fine.
Can anyone give me a clue as to what controls the MPG gauge??

Any help much appreciated,

Thanks

Mike.

I have the same problem. I'm starting to think maybe it's vacuum related...a hose in the engine compartment that's not connected? I've looked and found nothing. Have you found the solution to this problem? Let me know.

I thought maybe it was too,but Bill R told me it gets its signal from the dme, maybe that capacitors would be a good place to start

I'll work on fixing that, are these the ones I need to replace from this website? http://www.bmwe34.net/e34main/Maintenance/Electrical/Capacitors.htm
Thanks.
