View Full Version : M20 severe power loss in high altitudes? Bend, OR.

I was in Bend this week, and noticed that once I got near the elevation, and especially driving around at city speeds (trying, anyway) my M20 became a major putt-putt car. Any thoughts? Is this normal, or is my MAF not tuned properly/components going bad?

Again, any experience with M20 or M30 high altitude performance would be GREATLY appreciated. I do recally Shogun mentioning BMW and their chip design regarding high altitudes, being a general, "solve-all." Honestly, I think it's the MAF, but I don't know how to diagnose.

3623 feet elevation... it is high but not as high as Denver.

Here in Santa Fe New Mexico over 7000ft, Denver is a around a mile (5280ft), my M20 does great the higher I go in altitude, nothing like forced induction....
Do check the MAF....

Turbo works great in high altitude environment.

FYI, I was a lot higher than that at many points.
6335ft up near Mt. Bachelor, but it was still slow at lower elevation.

What I would like to know, though, is what components should I specifically check, Where is the MAF sensors and things that could cause this problem?
