How much HP have you folks gotten out of a 540i, without forced induction? I remember MacV had done some work on his engine, any details on that or other projects?

Also, I know there are kits that may provide around 335 HP for the 535i with a turbo, but I am curious what else may be involved for higher HP numbers, like the 400~ Alpina cars.

I want a kit...it better not be one off ebay that is 19.99 with a 1,000.00 shipping fee from Hong Kong though! :p;):D

Mine is running 272bhp as per the rolling road results, its only lost 4hp after 155k which is not bad although the guy did have to calculate it from the reading because he couldn't get it to stay in 3rd as it kept kicking down. I did have a K&N air filter fitted but I got rid of it after mixed results, sounded marginally better but no noticable gain, not what you were after I know but I thought I'd share....

I think the place to start is to get the intake in tip top shape and make sure your torque converter is not slipping as it zaps the power below 3k rpm. If thats done then go for a chip, its the the biggest bang for your buck without a turbo surely?
