on a manual 530 with traction control, would the differential be LSD or open?

Lots of things are different on them in comparison to my non ast 530, just wondering if this was common knowledge.

From the factory you could option either LSD or ASC+T but not both. Not to say you couldn't install an LSD into an ASC+T car after the fact. But if it's got ASC+T odds are it's got an open diff.

Pretty sure bubba is right. Both of my asc cars have a peg leg

tried that no deals. I was thinking because of the way ASC worked it would be open.

Thanks guys!

Its my diff that is rumbling under heavy acceleration. Real oem says its an lsd but I think not. Too cold at the moment to spin the drive shaft and see. I would like to know the ratio. There seems to be two on these 1994 530 cars 3.07 and 3.15 No idea what the ratio is for the manual five speed. Anyone know?

Just look at the rear end cover... if there is no "S". it is open differential.

3:07 5- speed
3:15 Auto
in comparing ratios there is no noticable difference between the two.

Try adding a tube of gear additive- it can sort things out compeltely (not sure how long for though)

You must be from a salt free climate. MI has its way of wearing away the painted S. I will try a tube of the lsd additive. It runs fine until you gun it.

Denny,
If you have an LSD the only noise it will make specific to the LSD is clutch chatter. This is what the additive is for. Usually it will chatter during the first turn after driving straight for a while. The additive AND fresh fluid should improve that.
If it grumbles all the time while accelerating you may have a pinion bearing failing. A failed bearing will leave metal in the gear oil as evidence.

You can just run Mobil1 Synthetic LS 75w90 in the diff. Synthetic oil additive packages work just fine with LSD's.

perhaps letting you know it's a friend, add 1/4 tube of LSD juice and the nightmares go away my friend.
