Good Morning,
I just put the motor and trans back in, getting ready to fire it up and wanted to crank it over a few times to build oil pressure. The starter only operates 1 in 10 times and only when it feels like it. Is there a jumper wire process to use to verify that the starter didn't get toasted?

The small blk/yellow wire is the solenoid terminal. run a jumper to 12v to bypass the switch.

Hi Ross,
Tried that and got nothing. Is the solenoid toasted?
Can one purchase a solenoid separately? Or is a used starter the way to go?

solenoid toast or no ground to the starter.

I cleaned the ground strap between the solenoid and starter. I did paint the starter a nice shiny black. Did I compromise my ground by doing that?
