I realized the buttons light up but the screen doesn't. The lights go out sometimes but that can be fixed with a bang on the dash. Haha

Which screen? From instrument or on radio? If you switch to C33, your instrument display from the radio won't work.

The backlight on the radio display is the one I'm referring to. It started working tonight. Well the illumination goes out for a bit then comes back, it's frustrating. Where can I get an adapter for the old style radio plug to the one the C33/CD43 uses?

How do you have C33 connected without the correct plug? I'm sure you have find one from parting out cars (craigslist, ebay, etc.)...

my antenna plug is a a plug less than an inch long and about 4mm wide but the C33 uses a short thin pin for the antenna.

As for the antenna connection, i went to hell and back by stripping the antenna cable and receivers of a '93 E34. problem solved. I now have Weather Band and functioning AM stations. Haha, useless I know.

Thanks for sharing that. I don't remember the antenna connecor being different when I upgraded to C43 while back but my car is 95. But I decided to keep the original Philips head unit since C43 was not compatible with Pioneer CD changer, instrument center display no longer worked, and original head unit just sounded better. But one thing it had that I liked about C43 is that it uses I-bus connection or something like that. You can get aux adapter or iPod adapter for them.

What wires send the text data to the instrument cluster?

It should be connector 7 (radio should have the pin number on the connector). It is the top pin, second column from the right. But I believe C33 and C43 doesn't use this pin.
