View Full Version : Coil pack guts?

Waiting for parts to arrive, I started digging around the rest of the engine bay and found some small, hard yellow drops on two of the coil packs. You can see them in my crappy cell phone pics right where the metal base meets the black pack. Is this glue of some kind or the actual electrolyte whatever leaking out?

The resistance on all the coil packs tested at 0.8 ohms (which is still in spec). And I don't see any stress cracks or discoloration. I sure wish they'd have stamped dates on these things.

I know this isn't the greatest picture, but I also found this clear paste inside the boot and on the tops of the spark plugs. Don't recall seeing this in my old M50. Is it some kind of conductive paste perhaps?

When the coil leaks, it leaks big. It's usually a crusty white substance

OK, good. Just wanted to make sure.

And yeah, the grease in the coil boots is a conductive grease.

take em out and look at them with a magnifying glass. if you see any hairline cracks (i'd bet money that you do if they are original) you are only prolonging the inevitable.

If/when you decide to replace the coils, go for BREMI again, BOSCH tends to crap out more often.

If you go Bremi replace the plug boots with Bremi, same with bosch/bosch due to differences in resistance.

If I remember correctly, when you buy BREMI coils from BMA, you get them with boots ;)

Anyway, differences in resistance are so small it's irrelevant.
