Does the 1, 2 and 3 light up? The only thing that lights up is the memory button when your press it to store a seating position.

I just cracked open an old switch and I see the bulb that lights up the 1 2 and 3 is an ordinary bulb, vs the Memory button has an LED.

yes, right. If you want you can also install an LED. I installed a bit brighter bulb than original, original is quite dim.

E38/9 have a BUS system, have never heard that someone has done or tried it, not on U.S. boards and not on German bforums and not here in Japan.
