Seeking some advice before i go take the t-stat housing off again.

I had a leak from the plastic housing that was on the car. I replaced the housing with the aluminum one, and replaced the seals. After the replacement, the leak appeared from right about the same place.

(bottom of t-stat housing on the water inlet side, not the t-stat side)

Anyone had to use RTV or the like to get the aluminum housing to seal 100%?

You sure it's not the housing itself that's leaking? I know a lot of guys in my area that've tried many different aluminum housings that had porous enough castings that they leaked. Some of them have had the aluminum housings warp. Don't know anyone in the area now that uses an aluminum housing on their M50.

Sure, the plastic housings don't last forever. But I'd go with one of those over an aluminum one that leaks or warps.

Found the problem, surprisingly not the housing being warped or leaking itself. There was some pitting on the cylinder head at the water outlet (not the thermostat) Not sure when this problem cropped up, but sealant is my best option at the moment.
