I found it amazing how BMW used plastic gears in that starter.

Last weekend we disassembled another starter motor, was still running when we took it out of the parts car. Disassembled it and all fell out in small pieces, also plastic gear.
I am not sure where they changed to the metal gear, maybe with end number Bosch 132 135 134 or so.
Anyway, now we completed also that 750 motor starter with the steel innards from a Bosch motor starter from a Mercedes Benz.
Works nice on the bench.
Basically all the same, except the pinion gear or the toothed rim as I call it with my poor English, for the M70 engine it must have 9 teeth.

So they make rebuild kits for these starters?

some are even Bosch rebuilt.
So no need to buy the single parts, they cost more.
